Comcare awards recognise WHS excellence (Media Release)

19 May 2021

Efforts to keep a large APS workforce COVID-safe, innovations in handling Defence Force explosives, and a program to reduce recovery times for long-term injuries are among the winners of the 2021 Comcare National Work Health and Safety Awards.

The winners were announced yesterday in a special virtual ceremony to honour initiatives to deliver safe and healthy workplaces across the Comcare scheme.

Comcare CEO Sue Weston said the winning entries show great commitment at the organisational and individual level.

“These initiatives demonstrate how much opportunity there is to make significant impacts in enabling safe and healthy work in our diverse jurisdiction,” Ms Weston said.

“It’s important that we celebrate and reward leadership and innovation across our scheme. Achievements like these can inspire others to reduce injury and harm in the workplace."

“Congratulations to all the winners and finalists.”

The Work Health and Safety Awards are usually celebrated as part of Comcare’s National Conference, which has been postponed until 2022. The winners will be recognised in person at next year’s event.
